A trip down memory lane

My friend Dawn, who went to high school with me, made my day yesterday. I got home to find a message from her containing 3 pictures of the two of us at our summer job the summer of 1995: Sno Biz Shave Ice! It was the greatest job I ever had. If they had health insurance, I might still work there. Dawn and I spent our days giggling, listening to the radio, visiting with our friends, eating sno cones and sometimes even waiting on customers. There was no stress. There were no mean bosses. We had just graduated from high school and were on our way to college with our whole lives ahead of us. It was the best summer ever.

We cast Broadway!

We are thrilled to report that we have just finished watching the finale of GREASE: You're the One That I Want and MAX & LAURA are Danny and Sandy!!!!!!!! After griping for a while about how strange and weird it was for them to use a reality show to cast a Broadway musical, we quickly became full-out addicts of the show. Last week after the finals, we voted for a solid hour. (Quick shout-out to the people who's email addresses we borrowed so we could vote more online!) Anyway, our diligence paid off and we can't wait to see Max and Laura in the show. Of course, once we spend the summer DOING Grease in West Virginia, it may be the last thing we want to see when we get home to NY. :)

Only in New York

Only in New York can you find a dollar store that also sells meat. Seriously. There's a dollar store on our street that has a butcher shop of sorts in the back advertising that they sell "baby goat and lamb." I kid you not. My question is, does the meat cost a dollar, too? Ew.

Woe is us.

Just when things are going spiffy, life often hands you a lemon. Ours is in the form of a 1997 Dodge Stratus. Poor car. It's been in storage since a couple of years ago when it was deserted in Ithaca to allow a move to NYC. We drove it to visit our families during the holidays, then brought it home to NYC to cut travel time off Marcus's commute to work. That part has been a blessing. The check engine light has not. We took it in this morning to find out we need a new radiator (which of course, they do not have in stock) and a thermostat. The parts are inexpensive. The labor is not. My friends, we all need to quit our jobs and become mechanics. I think I could deal with a little grease under my nails if I made as much as they do in labor. As if gas prices weren't high enough, now we get to buy parts and labor. Oh, well. That's one of the joys of being a car-owner.
Have a great weekend!

Why hello there!

Greetings from the Lanes! This blog is intended to allow us to keep in touch with the people we love no matter where they are located. The idea came when we signed on to work this summer at Theatre West Virginia. The plan is to post at least one picture each week and to keep everyone up to date on our adventures as they happen. We start there in mid-May.

In the meantime, we've got a busy month ahead of us, as Jen wraps up the Off-Broadway run of WIDOWER'S HOUSES and Marcus produces the ten-minute play festival at his school.

Just to pique your interest, future blog posts are almost sure to include:
1. Our nephew Adam. He's adorable and we love him. A lot.
2. Our neigbors. We DON'T love them.
3. Marcus's pet peeve about people not refilling the ice cube tray and Jen's annoyance at people who do not replace the twist-tie on the bread.
4. Our jobs, which we love, but which sometimes make us go bonkers.
5. American Idol. Our mothers got us addicted.

We hope you will visit our blog many times.
